47 deputies of the PD, from the Berisha-Bardhi grouping, have requested to change the composition of the Electoral Reform Commission. The socialist co-chairman of the commission, Damian Gjiknuri, was asked by journalists this Friday why the will of the 7 DP deputies who are part of the Basha grouping and not the rest is heard. Gjiknuri said that the SP cannot become the judge of who has the right of representation. He emphasized that the majority guarantees inclusiveness. “If you look at the decision on the creation of the Electoral Reform Commission and the responsibilities, all the decisions, it talks about political parties and not parliamentary groups. I understand that this has created some kind of confusion, but the SP cannot be the judge of who he has the right to representation. One thing I guarantee him, I guarantee him personally, that all parties will be treated equally. What do you mean? Not that I have more weight than others to treat everyone equally, what I can every proposal of any member because there are members from the grouping of Gazment Bardhi, there are members from the grouping of Berisha, the pulpit, there are members from the grouping of Alibeaj or Lulzim Basha, there is the Republican Party, the Freedom Party, the PDIU. Everyone is involved there. I guarantee one thing. All their proposals, opened within a normal discussion of the commission with the support of ODIHR’s expertise on those issues I have said”, he said. According to Gjiknuri, the commission is made up of all DP groups and other parties. According to him, it is not necessary to waste time, but to discuss the product that should come out and that should be consensual. “Why waste time, when I’m saying it honestly and directly. Let’s discuss the product. That consensual product should come out anyway. If it is not consensual, it is another matter. Let’s discuss the issues that interest them. Unfortunately, they are fighting for a seat while time is running out and their need begins and fades because the need above all, I said, is the opposition, as well as us as the majority. I don’t want to say that the need is only theirs and we have no interest. It is close to heart and I know because I have done this work in the opposition as well. The opposition is the one pushing for changes in the Electoral Code for those issues that it thinks will ensure or cure their fears or concerns that they generally raise.” Commenting again on the letter of the 47 deputies, Gjiknuri said that he guarantees full equality in terms of communication and the conduct of meetings. According to him, what he has in hand is to treat everyone equally. “The proportion is about the party. I do not undertake to comment on who is represented, I guarantee full equality in terms of communication, the conduct of meetings. The co-chairman has veto value only. I cannot solve this issue, the only thing is to treat them the same, for me they are all co-presidents”, he said.
