China has approved more than 40 artificial intelligence models for public use in the first six months since authorities began the approval process, as the country tries to catch up with the US in artificial intelligence development.
The Securities Times reported that Chinese regulators had approved a total of 14 major language models for public use last week. This marks the fourth batch of AI models China has approved.
Beijing approved its first batch of AI models in August, shortly after the approval process was approved. Chinese companies have been rushing to develop AI models since OpenAI’s ChatGPT took the world by storm in 2022.
