A model with Down syndrome who will take part in London Fashion Week says she wants to “change the face of fashion”.
Beth Mattheës, 23 years old, from Swansea, is one of the few models who participates in an international fashion event such as “London Fashion Week”.
Since 2022, she has posed for Cosmopolitan and was invited to walk the carpet at the Venice Film Festival, writes the BBC.
Her mother Fiona said Beth’s growing confidence has helped her find her own identity.
She added that it would change perspectives on Down syndrome and shows “that someone like Beth has an amazing life.” Beth was inspired to become a model after seeing the work of Ellie Goldstein, who also has Down syndrome, and has represented the company Gucci fashion.
Around 47,000 people in the UK have Down syndrome, which is caused by an extra chromosome.
Beth said she was “really excited” to model at fashion week, adding that her 18 months of modeling had made her more confident.
